Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what data Safr collects, why, and how we handle it. In short: we collect the minimum needed to help you find masajid and navigate to them.
1. What we collect
Location data
Safr needs your device location to find nearby masajid and route you through them. Location is used on-device for routing. Coarse location may be sent to our servers only when you search for masajid in a region, and is not tied to your identity.
Account data (optional)
If you create an account, we store your email address and any profile preferences you provide (e.g., madhhab for prayer-time calculation). You can use core Safr features without an account.
User-submitted content
Reviews, masjid corrections, and photos you submit are stored with your account so we can attribute and moderate them.
Device and diagnostic data
We collect anonymous crash reports and basic usage analytics (e.g., which features are used, app version, OS version) to improve Safr. This data does not identify you personally.
2. What we do NOT collect
- We do not track your precise location history.
- We do not sell your data to advertisers or third parties.
- We do not use your data to build advertising profiles.
- We do not share your identity with masajid.
3. How we use your data
- To provide navigation and show nearby masajid.
- To calculate accurate prayer times for your location.
- To improve Safr through aggregate, anonymized analytics.
- To communicate with you about the Service (e.g., beta updates) if you’ve opted in.
4. Third-party services
Safr relies on a small number of trusted providers:
- Map and place data: for rendering maps and retrieving masjid locations.
- Cloud infrastructure: for hosting and data storage.
- Analytics and crash reporting: for anonymous diagnostics.
Each of these providers has its own privacy policy and we send them only the minimum data needed.
5. Data retention
We keep account data while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account, which permanently removes your personal data from our systems within 30 days (except where we are legally required to retain it).
6. Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time. Email privacy@getsafr.app and we will respond within a reasonable timeframe. If you are in the EU/UK, you have rights under GDPR including data portability and the right to object to processing. If you are in California, you have rights under the CCPA.
7. Children
Safr is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us and we will remove it.
8. Security
We use industry-standard encryption (TLS in transit, encryption at rest) and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we’ll notify you in the app or by updating this page. The “Last updated” date above always reflects the current version.
