Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 1, 2026
Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what data Safr collects, why, and how we handle it. In short: we collect the minimum needed to help you find masajid and navigate to them. Safr has no accounts and no sign-in — you never give us your name or email to use the app.
1. What we collect
Location data
Safr uses your device location to find nearby masajid, calculate prayer times and Qibla direction, and provide turn-by-turn navigation. Prayer times and Qibla are calculated on your device, and your location is never sent to or stored on our own servers.
To draw maps, plan routes, and search for masajid, your coordinates are sent to our map providers (Mapbox and Google Maps Platform) at the moment you make the request. If you start a trip, Safr may keep using your location in the background — only for that trip — to give spoken directions and to alert you when you reach a masjid stop. iOS shows a location indicator whenever this is active.
Masjid submissions and corrections
If you choose to add a masjid or suggest a correction, we store what you enter in that form (for example the masjid’s name, address, location, website, amenities, and any notes), along with a random identifier generated by the app, the app version, and your device platform. The random identifier is used only to prevent spam; it is not linked to your name, email, or advertising ID.
Device and diagnostic data
We collect anonymous crash reports and basic usage analytics (e.g., which features are used, app version, OS version) to improve Safr. This data does not identify you personally.
2. What we do NOT collect
- We do not track your precise location history.
- We do not sell your data to advertisers or third parties.
- We do not use your data to build advertising profiles.
- We do not share your identity with masajid.
3. How we use your data
- To provide navigation and show nearby masajid.
- To calculate accurate prayer times for your location.
- To improve Safr through aggregate, anonymized analytics.
- To review masjid submissions and corrections and keep masjid data accurate.
4. Third-party services
Safr relies on a small number of trusted providers:
- Mapbox and Google Maps Platform: maps, routing, and place information.
- Google Firebase: hosting masjid data, storing submissions, anonymous analytics (Firebase Analytics), and crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics).
Each of these providers has its own privacy policy and we send them only the minimum data needed.
5. Data retention
Safr does not keep a location history. Masjid submissions and corrections are kept as long as they are needed to maintain masjid data. To have a submission removed, email privacy@getsafr.app. Settings you change in the app are stored only on your device and are removed when you delete the app.
6. Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time. Email privacy@getsafr.app and we will respond within a reasonable timeframe. If you are in the EU/UK, you have rights under GDPR including data portability and the right to object to processing. If you are in California, you have rights under the CCPA.
7. Children
Safr is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us and we will remove it.
8. Security
We use industry-standard encryption (TLS in transit, encryption at rest) and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we’ll notify you in the app or by updating this page. The “Last updated” date above always reflects the current version.
